Week 2 - The Brain

Session 2 - The Brain = The Corpus Callosum & The Lobes of the Cortex

Revisit the concepts covered in last session - run through PowerPoint slides that were shown (hand out diagram of the HNS for students to stick into their workbook).

Run through the home work - ensure that all students have completed and noted the correct responses. Show and discuss how work will be recorded - worth outlining the importance of keeping an index some where in notebook.

Move back to the function of the Corpus Callosum section of the PP, run through slides and clips - remember to complete activity after the relevant clip. Run through the remaining PowerPoint slides discussing the different areas and lobes of the cortex.

Time permitting - move onto the Four Lobes of the Cerebral Cortex PP.

Session 3 - The Lobes of the Cortex = The Frontal Lobe & Phineas Gage

Revisit the concepts from last session - specifically the information concerning the Frontal Lobe.

Move through the PowerPoint - focus on the story of Phineas Gage. Read the relevant case study and watch the clip explaining the role of the Frontal Lobes and the scientific importance of the Gage case.

Hand out and discuss the holiday homework - the Brain Poster. Along with using the textbook as a resource for the completing the poster, highlight the use of the 3D interactive brain model that can be found underneath the 'Class Materials' heading on the right hand side of the blog.

The Brain Poster is due in on the first session back in 2013.
